The purpose of this web page is to spread information I and others have collected about the history of the Ziller family and as a place for people to send information that they have found as they try to piece together their family trees. It is my goal to try to generate interest in the genealogy of the Ziller family and to provide a valuable source of information for all those searching for clues to their past.

How many Zillers are there in the world?

According to the internet directory of telephone numbers there are 300 entries of Zillers in the United States. These would probably contain some families and some singles. Some may not even be listed. But a good guess would be between 900 to 1000 Zillers living in the United States.

The phone directory in Germany lists around 800 names, so there could be 1800-2000 living in Germany. There are roughly 200-400 in Austria. The World Book of Zillers estimates 43 Zillers in Canada, and a few in Great Britain. There are 50-100 living in Brazil. I don't have any calculations for Zillers in France or Italy but I know there are Zillers there.

My guess is that there are probably less than 4000 people in the world with the last name or maiden name Ziller. This number may be easier to calculate given that more and more phone directories are being listed on the internet.

Do all of the Zillers have one common ancestor?

I used to think there was a good chance that all Zillers are related somehow. But since I have started the web page and with the help of Dr. Ferdinand Ziller in Austria and Dr. Leopold Ziller there is evidence that shows the Ziller name originated in more than one area of Europe.
